X - RAY SPEX. Live Brixton Academy 14.9.91. POLY STYRENE R.I.P

Just heard the sad news that 'Poly Styrene' sadly passed away on Monday at the age of 53, from an advanced form of breast cancer.
To celebrate her life I dug out a few tapes but found that they had already been posted, Nuzz, so here is a great audience recording of a reunion gig in 1991, this gig has some newer material on it as well. 'Warrior In Woolworths' being one of me fav's, it would always be in my head whenever I entered the shop!
My thoughts go to family and friends, Poly will be very  missed but never  forgotten !!

WAT TYLER . Live Bath Place, Leamington Spa 21.4.90

I'd forgotten I had this but found it on the end of another bands demo tape, it's so good I had to post it straight away. Wat Tyler was another fun packed punk rock band, fronted by Sean Forbes, they were always great to see live cos of their eclectic style, surreal humour and jokes. They released some great Lps and Eps which should be checked out, but until then here's a short taster, crisp, S/B recording.

KILLING JOKE. Live London Victoria Theatre 10.2.80

As requested, a great early audience recording from Killing Joke, another of those bands that I have followed on and off over the years. I loved their early gigs because they were always a bit different from the norm', support bands etc. It's great the original line are back together and in my opinion they are sounding heavier than ever and producing some of their best work to date, 'Absolute Dissent is a belter of a Lp.

RADICAL DANCE FACTION. Live Great Cornard Community Center, Sudbury 8.3.90

The days are getting longer and this always reminds me of the free festival season so I decided to put this RDF audience recording on. They formed in 1986 by Chris Bowsher, they have had quite a few line up changes but he has always been at the core. Their sound, if your not familiar with them, is a bit Dub, Ska, Crusty Punk with John Cooper Clark nice change and relaxing. I hear Chris is still going his thing under Chris Bowsher (and the Faction), check out more goodies on this great site. I have a couple of demos which I will post soon if anyone is interested ?

SEDITION. Live Edinburgh Venue 1989.

Keepin' on the noisier side of things here's ' Sedition' from Glasgow. I wont go into too much history about the band (click on name) except they formed out of  'Chaotic Subversion', post of their material to follow soon. When I saw them the line up was Gus, Billy, Brycey and Martin, what a sound, trashy, celtic, hardcore, deep meaningful lyrics and great guys un all. One of me fav Lp's of  '90 was their split with  'Pink Turds In Space',

This set is crisp S/B quality, short and sweet, I have very fond memories of them, hope they're all well ?

DISCHARGE. Live The Music Machine. London 28.10.80

When I first heard 'Realities of War' back in 1980 it didn't do much for me, it wasn't until I went to see Discharge  live that their sound and stage presence smacked me with a sledgehammer. As usual I can't remember if the first time I saw them was on the 'Apocalypse Now' tour,  but the best gigs were the first two at 'Bowes' and one in Letchworth with Erazerhead and G.B.H.
They had such a great powerful new sound at the time and the first few releases are brilliant, real shame they went downhill and we began to see so many copy cat bands.
Anyway this is the best live recording I have and heard from Discharge, captures them in perfect form and still gives me goose bumps when I hear 'But After The Gig', Play it Loud !!

Chaos UK. Live Edinburgh Venue 1989

I still think 'No Security' has one of the best punk intros ever ! Here's Chaos UK a bit later on in life but an excellent S/B recording. From the banter from the band towards the crowd and a good mix of their releases it's a great gig. I remember writing to them in '81 to ask if they would play in Stevenage and all I got back was a load of butt ends and ash with a scribbled note saying 'From Chaos UK'. Good old Punk Rock !!

CRASS. Anarchy Against Warfare, Bootleg

It would only seem appropriate I put A Crass post up, I have quite a few live recordings but this one seems to be the best quality, the only problem being I don't have any info on it except the name on the cassette, so as usual can anyone help ? The one I was going to post got chewed up so if anyone has a copy of 'Live Northampton 27.2.82' I would appreciate it.
Crass were such a massive influence to me dare I say they changed my life. I remember my big Sis bringing home the 'Feeding Of The 5000' back in '78, her playing it to me, being totally stunned by the anger, hatred that came from it. The artwork, covers, message, the fact that the first track wasn't allowed because of it's lyrical content all blew me away.
The record had to be hidden in our house but it was found and listened to by me step Dad, it caused such a bad fight that me Sis got chucked out the house for good. This all added anger to my views and made what Crass was saying more true!
I rebelled against everything my parents, school, etc were wanting me to do, Crass really opened my mind.
My sis was an early die hard Crass fan who went to most of the early gigs round our way and would always tell me the stories of the trouble at them. Me mate got nicked before the gig at' Bowes' and ended up spending the night there, later on he was joined by Steve Ignorant  cos of the trouble at that gig. So at least he saw a bit of Crass! One of my fav stories is a punk from a school near to mine managed to play a bit of  'So What', at the morning assembly, what a legend! one of my fav tracks ever !! I could bore you to tears with stories and most probably already have so enjoy and oh yeh there's a bit of an interview at the end!
