I have been putting off this post for a while now as there's loads of Ant stuff out there on the net, but after reading the brilliant post on 'Kill Your Pet Puppy' it made me do this. To me 'Dirks Wears Whites Sox' is one of the best Lp's ever released, lyrically and musically, I don't think I have ever been bored of listening to it and tracks from it are always on my play list. I loved Adam & The Ants until the unfortunate split and the white line across his face, all the pre 80's stuff is just genius with my all time fav tracks being 'Whip In My Vales' and 'Lou'.
I had seen he was gigging again and couldn't believe that he was coming to my local venue. I was in two minds whether to go as I didn't want to shatter the very fond early memories I had of them.
Again it was the 'KYPP' post that pushed me to purchase a ticket and brave the gig.
As I approached the venue I still was having second thoughts as I began to see folk with beads in their hair and even one guy with a white strip across his nose !! It was a real mixed bunch, the support were okay and I was still thinking I had wasted £22, as looked at the two drum kits on the stage and as certain members of the crowd kept doing the Indian cry. As the lights went down and the bass was hit my nerves turned to joy and excitement as his band started to play 'Plastic Surgery'. Anyway enough of this gig type review to cut a long gig short Adam played about 75 per cent of the old material including for the first time 'Lou'. Adam told the crowd he has never done it before because he never knew the lyrics as Jordon would always scream them, so he rang her last week to find them out ! It was a shame that most of the crowd seemed to be there for the more charty stuff but at the end of the day Adam is looking great, smiling, sounding as good as ever and he's enjoying himself along with a band who are tight. I came away a very happy early ant fan, if he's playing near you don't be put off, go !!!
So here's the goodies I have loads of early Ant stuff from demo's to live recordings so if anyone wants any more just ask and I will send you a list of what I have, links to them or I'll post more but for now here's one of my fav early audience recordings that I picked up years ago at Camden market it has one of the best set lists i think. I have also added another from this year with the set list very close to the one I saw them do, enjoy!!
