MARK ASTRONAUT. Live The Saracen's Head, Doncaster 12.5.88

First thing is there anybody out there, I have only one comment and one follower,
(Thanx  NPW), any advise, help on how to get more traffic ??

The Astronauts were always playing locally  but never really got the credit they  deserved, they are brilliant musically and  lyrically. I was fortunate to see them quite a  few times, the first time being in Welwyn
 Garden City on The Campus.
I think it was a peace festival but again my  memory ain't what it used to be, I  do remember seeing them, any help?
This is an acoustic set, audience recording,  Mark Wilkins did in 1988 and covers tracks
 from all the  early Lp's.
I have  also put on a couple of extra tracks I  found.
If you like what you hear get the Lp's,  there's a link on their name which should  help and also give you the history of the band !
Just found loads of goodies from them on KYPP site.

  1. Make that 2 comments. Stick with it, it takes time for word to spread, but it will. As for comments well....people will or they wont, but don't take it personaly, cos you know what people can be like. I've stuck a link up on my blog for you, hopefully others who you've linked up to will do the same, which should increase traffic. All the best and Keep on Keeping On.

  3. Excellent find, I went to that one myself, it was at the Saracen's Head. I think Crow People were on that night as well.

Are you from Doncaster yourself? I wouldn't mind borrowing that tape.

    Eddie.

  4. Hi Eddie
No I'm not from Doncaster a friend I used to write to was, so thats how I got it. Do you need a copy without the gaps ? If so I could do that for you and post it here, if that helps?

  5. I'd love a wav or flac version so that I can play around with the sound a bit in cool edit if that wouldn't be too much hassle. Either here or on dimeadozen. You can just about hear me asking for Secret File but not Mark's reply (he said he couldn't remember the words).

    Eddie.

  6. Heres the WAV file as promised, I had to do it in two prts as the file was too big hope this is okay. Let me know when your done so I can remove it, also could you please post me copy if you sort the sound out. Thx again for showing an interest and please pass me blog on, take care.

  11. Ta muchly for this, I vomit 4 u. As to the lack of comments, to quote LKJ "don't be depress' and downhearted", only a few people comment, most don't, but occasionally, you hit a good community like the Here & Now/Planet Gong/Fuck Off Records megapost pinkie (mr. pinkpressthreat) and I have got going over at edo's:

    http://knowyourconjurer.blogspot.com/2010/12/here-now-megapost-by-dave-sez-go-get.html

You'll find more Astronauts indexed there (feel free to drop a comment there) - a lot of the traffic our megapost has been getting has come from me continuing to track down the groups I like and leaving comments on the other blogs that post something to invite them to check out the megapost.

Cheers for now, and keep up the good work! Dave Sez.

  13. Dave Sez has been brilliant, and has kind of "shown me the ropes" regarding the blogosphere and the possibilities thereof. Ta, Dave.
Who needs Facebook? (Saying that, I've just succumbed to peer pressure and opened an account on there!! Don't like the layout much).

  18. You mentioned seeing The Astronauts on the campus in Welwyn Garden City. The first time was the kite festival in 1980 which was quite a large and momentous event (+ first time I saw them play live). The next one was a peace festival in 1982(I think)which was something of a damp squib. Anyway, keep up the great work.

  49. RiP Mark. Sad to hear of his passing. Great send off though by all accounts - in Stevenage - Joe Davin (who commented above in 2011) and other bandmates and friends there to see him off and toast him later at the pub (The Doctor's Tonic I believe).
Although this blog is kind of frozen in time for now posts like this with live links still matter. Take care all :)
